Lake of the Ozarks is navigated by mile markers — reference points starting at MM 0 at Bagnell Dam and increasing as you travel up the lake's 92-mile main channel. Every marina, boat rental, restaurant, and waterfront business identifies itself by its nearest mile marker, so boaters can plan stops and navigate by water rather than by road address.
The lake branches into five areas: the Main Channel running through Lake Ozark and Osage Beach, the Gravois Arm, the Grand Glaize Arm, the Niangua Arm, and the Little Niangua Arm. Commercial activity is concentrated between MM 0 and MM 30.
